Sevenoaks 2020: A photographic celebration of life and work in the town centre
Tuesday 23rd June - Saturday 4th July 2020
Sevenoaks Library/Kaleidoscope
People, Businesses and Buildings in the Town Centre
Sevenoaks is 900 years old. What began as a cluster of market stalls at the junction of routes from north and south has developed into a compact but diverse and dynamic town centre of over 250 urban businesses, shops and services. From haberdashery to health care; coffee to computers; dentistry to dustbins; art to artichokes; jewellery to jazz; specs to sports-wear, it’s all there - and much more besides. But that’s far from all. The town centre offers conversations, chance encounters, meetings, wanderings, exercise, stimulation … This active geography and history is celebrated in an exhibition of photographs of the town’s activities, the buildings in which they take place, and their owners and staff – the people who make them work. With photographs made between late 2019 and early 2020, the exhibition was organised and created by Victoria Granville-Baxter, Elizabeth Purves and Roger Lee.
Daily at Kaleidoscope Art Gallery during Library opening hours from Tuesday 23 June to Saturday 11 July 2020.
The Gallery is open from 10.00am each day (except Sunday when it is closed) until 6.00pm on Mondays; 5.00pm on Tuesdays - Fridays; and 4.00pm on Saturday.
